Proud Voices Rise: Celebrating Flag Day with the Star-Spangled Banner

On June 14, North Tonawanda came together to celebrate Flag Day with a heartfelt ceremony at Payne Park. The event began with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, setting a patriotic tone as local officials, veterans, and community members gathered to honor the American flag. The ceremony included speeches that reflected on the flag’s significance and the values it represents, while students from local schools participated by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and sharing essays about what the flag means to them.

The celebration also featured a flag retirement ceremony, where worn and tattered flags were respectfully disposed of by members of the American Legion. This act served as a reminder of the importance of treating the nation’s symbol with dignity. The event concluded with a sense of unity and pride, as attendees reflected on the meaning of Flag Day and the enduring spirit of the community.
